Should I start packing?

My proposal got approved (yay!) by my school, so it looks like at least they are on board with my project and going to Nepal. Now I just have to do what I wrote. I've been keeping up with the news in Nepal as much as I can. Google alerts makes it a lot easier when the BBC doesn't report much on Nepal. I don't want this blog to get bogged down in political musings and reporting of the situation in country... mostly because I don't want it to get shut down or me getting caught by whoever monitors these things. Let's just hope that the parties can get it together and get a functioning government in place.

As for packing, I have no idea where to start. A classmate who is also going to Nepal gave me some really good tips, so I guess I'll start there. I'm going home in a couple of weekends to get my winter stuff together and send a box ahead of me. I figure it'll get to Nepal by at least October if I send it now. :) Packing means, though, that I have to figure out all sorts of good to know information... like climate, what the dress is like at the office, and what exactly I'm going to be doing outside of work (like trekking, traveling, etc.).

Only 30-some days left until I leave... that's enough time, right? To get ready to go... and plan a wedding?

From Heller to Kathmandu

So now that I've finished my first year of grad school at Heller, it's on to my second year internship. After months (seriously... MONTHS) of looking for an internship in Nepal, I finally found one. :) I'll be in Kathmandu for 7 months working for an NGO that creates and broadcasts social development radio programming for children and youth in Nepal. Hopefully this will get me started towards creating children's media in the developing world. Secret dream (okay, maybe not so secret)... working at Sesame Workshop to bring Sesame Street to Uzbekistan and/or Nepal.

Anyway, I'll be using this blog to keep everyone up-to-date about my new life in Nepal. It'll be a lot easier to keep up with friends and family this time overseas now that I have my laptop and a better camera. So stay tuned and keep reading...
